The Driver Brothers (Andy & Steve) are brothers from south east of England who have been DJ-ing together since the winter of 1996.
Having listened to dance music throughout the early/mid 90s, they were interested enough in the scene to purchase some very basic turntables and mixer. It took them a couple of years to break out of the bedroom and into the local bars and clubs, but have maintained a good number of residencies which shows dedication and enthusiasm in what they are doing. During the early stages of their learning curve, they collected anything from house to trance records, until, around the millennium, they focused on house, be it soulful, funky, US, UK - if it’s good they’ll play it.
During this time they have gained a lot of experience behind the decks, by accompanying local bands, playing in bars, clubs and the odd house party. They have had mixes played on regional and internet radio stations, had many available to download from a wide range of websites, and have played alongside some established DJs along the way.
Influences for them include Masters at Work, Carl Cox, Danny Rampling, Conan Manchester (Liquid People), Jeremy Healy, Allister Whitehead and many, many more… During 2004 their highlights were been playing at Turnmills (London), a River Thames Boat Party (with Inspired Records), and getting more regular work around their area.
In 2005 they attended Miami Winter Music Conference for the first time and made some very good contacts, which lead to gigs during September 2005 in Washington DC, USA. They played at a different place every night they were there (on behalf of Nuvo Music) including Eyebar, Mantis and the Bossa Lounge.
In September 2005 the driverbrothers also got the chance to play in Ibiza, Spain. During their short stay on the white island, they played at Plastik, and at Orange Corner before, during and after a very memorable sunset.
Also during 2005 they have played sets at the Ministry Of Sound (London) on behalf of Rhythm At Work and have been playing regularly at Route Nightclub, which is regarded as the best club in their local area.
In 2006, the Driver Brothers organised sets at Ministry Of Sound (London), Turnmills (London) alongside other venues. They have been to Miami Winter Music Conference 2006 in march and have organised some gigs there (Wyndham Hotel, D’Vine Lounge), and in Washington DC (Chi Cha, Hell, Anzu) and Arlington (Gua Rupo) on the way back to the UK, through Ricardo @ Nuvo Music, and Steve Tucker @ MEM.
They returned to Ibiza again in August and played at some fantastic places, new and old. (Café Paradis, Itaca, Plastik, Orange Corner) Their aspirations for 2007 include hoping to play at a wider variety of places in and around the UK, Europe and beyond. Also they are enthusiastic about getting into the music production side, and see this as their next logical step.
The Driver Brothers seem to make a good impression on everyone they meet, and seem to forge good friendships which leads to fresh opportunities, which surely says a lot about them as DJs and people. |
